We're bringin' the heat. We're going to china town. We're smackin things down on the west side. Bam!
The planning commission will be reviewing the new Wal-Mart plans this month, and the City Commission will be voting to approve or deny the plans the week after the screening.
We'll be mobilizing everyone that comes to the screening to contact the commissioners to tell them to deny the plans. The next week we'll be getting everyone to come to the commissioner meeting, and the people will make thier voices known.
If you came to the first screening, you know that another Wal-Mart is not good for Lawrence, and all of our friends who didnt make it now have a second chance to get schooled in predatory economics 101.
Tell your friends. Spread the word. If you came last time, come again. A large turn-out is a symbol of the people's solidarity against Any corporation who puts their own priviate interests over the interests of the people, the environment, and society at large.
Whether the City Commission will side with the people is still unsure, but they will know beyond a doubt that to approve Wal-Mart is to go against the people.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
We'll see you on the 6th.
