In the US, public debate on Israel
and its treatment of Palestinians
could be characterized as "Profiles in
Cowardice."

One exception: former President
Jimmy Carter.

Carter has been calling the Israeli
treatment of Palestinians "as bad
as or worse than the treatment of
blacks in South Africa under
apartheid."

For his comments, he has been effectively
banned from speaking on numerous
US college campuses:
